Meet Martin

Started as a young hunter who had an addiction to being outdoors, participating in the annual deer hunting season was always on Martin’s calendar. He spent many restless nights prepping gear, looking at topo maps, and putting together strategies to prepare for opening day and hopefully a productive season.

His intro to hog hunting began when he was 23. As with many hog hunters, it all started with his first encounter with a sounder, or a family of hogs, while deer hunting on a wildlife management area. As his hog hunting interest turned into a passion, he couldn’t be happier to be living in the South East. Thanks to moderate climate and abundant crops, hog hunting has become a year-round activity.

Over the years, Martin has learned that hogs have a very unique set of skills that separate them from the other big game species. What he has also come to realize is that a successful hunt is not only based on the quantity of the harvest, but rather the quality of the entire experience. There is always a chance coming home empty handed, but what often matters most is having the opportunity to experience the culmination of events over the course of the hunt or the lessons learned from first-time scenarios displayed by the query he pursues.

With decades of hog hunting experience under his belt, he started his own guiding service in South Georgia called Hog Snort Resort (HSR). One of the primary objectives of HSR is to actively gather information both in the field and from available resources in the hog hunting world, generate analytics with a non-bias approach, and share results with others who are interested in the pursuit of the feral hog. The goal is to create a trustworthy platform that provides knowledge and experience to all hog hunters and assist them in increasing their rate of success. Driven by dedication and passion, HSR has gained substantial credibility in the hunting and firearm industries over the past decade.

As HSR and its research development became a valuable asset to the community, many fellow hog hunters wanted to learn more about the tips, tactics, and equipment used by Martin. One of the commonly asked subjects is about his choice of hog attractants used in the swamp. Martin spent years studying and experimenting with attractants made by other companies. He finally created his own attractant called “Swamp Sauce” - an environmentally friendly product that is made with all natural ingredients. His product has elevated his chances for success in the field, it has even gotten hogs jumping on trees, literally!

Another question that is frequently asked involves the gear he uses in the swamp. Like many fellow hunters, safety is at the top of his list. From first aid kits to clothing, he favors products that are designed to provide solutions to problems he may encounter while he is out on his hunts. One of the biggest innovations comes to mind is lighted gaiters. From the day he received his first pair, the performance of this gear had been proven to be an asset to his outings. Lighted gaiters have become a part of his essential gear. Regardless of weather or time of the year, he wears them on every excursion without exceptions. Being able to traverse with handsfree lighting during low light conditions, more attention can be focused on the act of trekking and hunting. No more needs for making constant headlamp adjustments or fumbling around with a flashlight, lighted gaiters have indeed changed his style of hunting during the night.

Most hunters would agree, a successful hunt is exactly that, a hunt! The culmination of events and experiences we cherish are the things we would share with friends and family for years to come. Martin is especially proud of HSR and looks forward to continuing his work and making a positive impact in the hog hunting industry. “The more individuals I can help by sharing knowledge, providing contact points, and discussing the pros and cons on related products available in the hog hunting world, the more memorable stories I will be able to share with our next generation!”
